FiDi LIONS CLUB is leading the way for LIONS' members to become Mentors to Youth at risk of dropping out from school.
The increase in violence, vandalism, destruction and criminal behaviours we see today, is a wake up that we failed our young men and women when they were growing up. To build a healthy and safe world we need to start mentoring our youth at risk during the time in their lives when they are transitioning from chidhood to adulthoos. We need to build from ground up, guide them to live a peaceful and successful life.
Of the 7.2 billion people worldwide, and around 1.2 billion of these young people are between 10 and 19 years;
- Around 30 teens aged 15 to 19 were newly infected with HIV per hour in 2017, according to a new UNICEF report
- Pregnancy rates in the U.S. are the highest compared to other countries, having 28 in every 1000 and 31 in every 1000 of females age 15-19 respectively
- About 34.4 million (46.1%) of children under 18 live with a substance abuser
- In the US, juvenile arrests are on the rise and crime and drug abuse are rated first and third as the biggest worries among Americans according to a recent survey for The Conference Board, a research institute.
- In 2016, law enforcement agencies in the U.S. made an estimated 856,130 arrests of persons under age 18.
The NYSMP was reinstated by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2015 to enable all youth at risk regardless of ethicity, religion belief and political views, to have a Mentor.
